The list of famous meditators — that is, celebrities who practice Transcendental Meditation — just keeps growing. Are your heroes represented?
Why do so many celebrities meditate?
First of all, many more of the famous will meditate than are prepared to come out with it. I think what has happened is that Transcendental Meditation has become so respectable that famous meditators feel safe to disclose the fact.
Here is a compiled list of celebrities and heads of state who have learned Transcendental Meditation:
Heads of State
- Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of India
- Shinzo Abe, former Prime Minister of Japan
- Joaquim Chissano, former President of Mozambique
Celebrities
- David Lynch, filmmaker
- Hugh Jackman, actor
- Oprah Winfrey, media mogul
- Paul McCartney, musician
- Ringo Starr, musician
- Katy Perry, singer
- Jerry Seinfeld, comedian
- Ellen DeGeneres, talk show host
- Russell Brand, comedian
- Cameron Diaz, actress
- Clint Eastwood, actor and director
- Martin Scorsese, director
- Sheryl Crow, singer
- Liv Tyler, actress
- Gisele Bündchen, model
- Jennifer Aniston, actress
- Howard Stern, radio personality
- Moby, musician
- George Lucas, filmmaker
- Ray Dalio, investor
And why has TM become so respectable? It has to be the scientific research:
Scientific Research on Transcendental Meditation
So here is the lowdown. This is just a TINY FRACTION of the peer-reviewed research on TM in good journals. More comes out every week and I try to post it on this site. If this list doesn’t amaze you, nothing will!

Dear Dr. Broome,
On the first paragraph of this article you asked: “Are your heroes represented?”
Obviously almost everyone has heroes according to the way he/she thinks about life. Being born in the early 1970s, my heroes where the cartoon characters such as the Superman, Batman, and Spider-Man. To make a relatively long story short, currently my heroes are each and everyone who are doing their part toward making a better life for themselves and the rest of the inhabitants of this beautiful and unique planet.
So, to answer your question, all of my heroes are represented plus too many others who are also heroes but not necessarily a celebrity or famous person.
Last but absolutely not least, you yourself are among my most favorite heroes whom I deeply respect. Keep up the good work. ☺
Kind regard,
Alex
Thank you for making my day Alex. We owe everything to Maharishi and his master, and before that-his, in turn back through the mists of time, without whom we would be lost in darkness.
You are most welcome, Dr. Broome.
I couldn’t agree more with you. Fortunately, light always finds its way to it destination!
Have a great time. ☺
